The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), an advisory board that works closely with the FDA to determine safe pet food ingredients, has not defined these terms.
However, BFF produces their formulas in a human food facility using many of the same ingredients and processes that are used in products for people around the world. Their base proteins of chickens, beef, and fish include only top quality muscle meat, such as white breast chicken meat, whole meat tuna loins, and select cuts of beef--all of which they flake off the bone.
